I need gear for this summer- want advice

Some gear I need to get for caretaking this summer

Thinking of getting the Katadyn Hiker water filter- seems pretty solid, good price, but if anybody has any other ideas, let me know.

Also thinking of getting a tent. Don't need it for the actual caretaking, but on days off for excursions into the mountain (i'm staying at pinkham notch when not working.)

(PS- Thanks Dan, who already gave me advice on my blog).

I know I want free standing for simplicity's sake, still undecided between 1 and 2 person. Ideally, I don't want to spend a ton either.

Here's the cheapest free standing I've seen- Big Agnes Seedhouse 1 (http://www.amazon.com/Big-Agnes-Seedhou ... B001AZ9KIC). The link's for amazon but I can get it for about 120 including shipping elsewhere (some places are up to 200). It's 3.75ish lbs, which might be somewhat heavy? But cheap, and reviews seemed fine.

Dan recommended the REI Quarterdome, which runs about 200, and only appears to be 1/2 lb lighter from what I saw online.

Two person would give me a little more space, and the cheapest ones don't really run that much more than the 1 person.

Dan recommended the Sierra Designs Lightning Pro, which is a little over 4 lbs packed and I could get for 160 online.

So, if you have any thoughts, let me know here, on my blog (http://va2nh.wordpress.com), in person, whatever. Looking to do my part to stimulate the economy here people.

my only opinion is on the water filter, the katadyns are nice and have a quick filtration rate but use disposable cartridges, the msr ones have ceramic cartridges which can be regenerated by scrubbing off the goop with a green scrubby thing (it comes with one) also i think they might remove more stuff and they're definitely more durable. i dont think either removes viruses tho, i think you need uv for that.
