Winter Mountaineering Gear

Postby shipinabottle on Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:12 am

Hey, Dan or somebody- could you post an idea of what gear would be needed for Winter Mountaineering, as well as what's available to rent. I'm buying a down jacket, but I also have a gift card to Kittery, so I'm looking for an idea of what I should consider buying.

a balaclava or face masks, sweet warm gloves, snow pants/shells, some hats, sick wool socks for your feet and your water bottles, big backpack at least 2 nalgenes, gators , long underwear, puffy jackets are sweet, mittens.
mountaineering gear: crampons, ice axe with leash, plastic boots
feel free to add stuff

Ski goggles can be nice depending on conditions above treeline. Liner gloves are also nice so you can have something on your hands even when you take your warm gloves off.

IME is planning on selling off old rental gear 3/20-3/23! Unfortunately this is over spring break but I am still working on figuring out what they have and prices and if we could get there or get the gear somehow.
