Moving In

Postby MarleighS on Wed Jun 04, 2008 10:20 pm

I know this may be a bit early to think about, but when we come up is there anywhere that we can put our stuff for the week before the actual move-in? I know the site says: "There is NO storage available at UNH until dorms have opened on August 30th. Contact the university with any extreme situations." But, I was wondering if there were any suggestions for storage, my mom doesn't want to drive from South-West CT to NH and back twice in one week. I was considering taking the amtrack up for the trip and then have my mom drive my stuff up at the end of the week. :D

think virginia would count as an extreme situation? haha, probably doesn't really matter anyway- i think i might take the train or fly up and have my parents come up the next week. think i'd rather have them around move in weekend anyway.

It wouldn't hurt to contact the university (either of you). Last year one of the freshmen had a bunch of boxes waiting for him...I forget exactly how that worked but he basically grabbed all the boxes on move-in day (with a little help from an NHOC leader or two) and took them over to his dorm. I think they were stashed in the MUB. I don't know what the details were though...maybe someone else around here remembers.

Most people meet up with their parents (and all their stuff) on move-in day one way or another. A plane into Manchester or Amtrak right to campus might be a good way to get here with just your hiking stuff. One potential issue with the train is that there are no northbound trains that arrive in Durham at a reasonable time in the morning. You have a choice of either 12:40 AM or 10:25 AM arrivals, the former obviously being really early and the latter being potentially too late depending on how early your trip leaves.

Small items, like a change of non-hiking clothes, can be left in the NHOC office for the week.

haha yeah I have orientation tomorrow and I have to take the Amtrack there because my mom won't let me drive alone and she can't drive me. My train arrives in Durham at 10:25 (30 minutes before the beginning of check-in)... and I have to leave my house at 4AM to get to the train... and I only slept for 30 minutes last night!

I guess Amtrack then meeting up with my stuff later would be the best bet. Thanks!
